In city ministry, a lot of Bibles were stolen -- not least Bibles in the pulpit. This included two expensive Bibles of my own. A likely reason -- or so I was told -- was that Bible paper (also called scritta paper or lightweight offset paper) makes excellent rolling paper for cigarettes -- including marijuana or dagga joints. The Bibles might have had a resale value, too, although most stolen Bibles were used ones. OBSERVATION: People sometimes joke that only good can come from a stolen Bible -- unless, that is, they go up in smoke.
