During my ministr(ies), there were major shifts in ages in my congregations. This post is about the reason why, as it may be helpful. The graphs on the right show a period which I needed to study for a postgraduate assignment. It shows major growth in the age-groups 0-35 (red, yellow, green). How did this happen? I put the change down to the "priesthood of believers" above all, or ministry by members. OBSERVATION:
I was a lot older than 0-35 at the end of this period -- which is encouraging. A
younger congregation does not need a younger minister to thrive. One thing one doesn't see in the graphs, however, is wider demographics -- which would be needed for a fuller picture.
POSTSCRIPT: I do not think, though, that a younger Church is as desirable as as a balanced Church. There needs to be a balance of ages, both in human years and in spiritual years.
