People ask me where the Karoo is -- what it is -- which is the locus of my consulent (oversight) ministry. It is a semi-desert region in South Africa. It
was once a great sea, so it is full of fossils now. More recently it was an almost impenetrable barrier to the interior from Cape Town, and
early explorers denounced it as a frightening place. Nobody seems to
agree exactly how to define the Karoo. My ministry is in the south-western part of the Karoo, in fact just outside the area shown here. Usually the Karoo is drawn larger than this.
