There was controversy when, this past Sunday, the minister of my old city Church asked friends to stay for the Church Meeting, and I stayed. Someone said: "You only come for the Church Meeting." In fact, I didn't know there was a Meeting -- it was not on the customary date. One member said: "I wondered how you knew." I didn't know. I prayed about which Church I should attend that morning, and felt that the Lord led me there. Over the previous six years, I attended the Church on a regular basis, yet attended the Meeting only once. 90% of the time, I did not attend -- all the same, it is my right and privilege. I said to the treasurer: "I tell you I had no idea there was a Church Meeting today. My only
purpose in being here today was to uplift and encourage the Church if
there should be any opportunity to do that." The treasurer asked me to leave -- explaining to the congregation in detail how they knew I had planned this. I had not. POSTSCRIPT: He previously dreamed up plots, and attorneys vigorously addressed this at the time. If there is something big enough to preclude one from
attending a Church Meeting, it should be discussed kindly
before hand, at the least.
