Assegaai

I was delighted to find, on Sunday, an asssgaai standing in a Church office -- and the Church was only too pleased to give it to me. They said it didn't seem to "blend" with the office. My father-in-law lost his assegaai in the veld a few years ago, so this will be going to him. OBSERVATION: I should probably say it is an iklwa, as it has a shorter shaft. This had its origins in King Shaka's military reforms. When I was to negotiate with elders for my wife, I joked that they should leave their guns outside. Not guns, she said. Assegaais.
