One of the most important things about sound Church finances is discipline -- and the kind of discipline that everyone can see. Many Churches, without having any wrongful intent, are simply in a muddle. When I started in city ministry, the deacons told me that there was a Restoration Fund. What was in it? I asked. So and so much, they said -- but in actual fact, nothing. They had rerouted the money to pressing needs. I discovered, too, that there were rumours in the Church that this had happened. I said, we are not going to see financial revival with this in the works. I said we had to keep designated funds designated -- and we did.
