I attended the Congregational Church in ... call it the remote town of Patensie today, to lay an elder to rest. The minister here (Afrikaans “leraar”) is an uncle, my mother-in-law’s younger brother. There are many ministers in wife E’s family. OBSERVATION: In South Africa, several ministerial titles are typical in a Church. Elsewhere in the world, one may only find the “vicar” (or “minister”, or “pastor”). Notice the prominence of children in a funeral service.
