In computer science, there is what one calls
persistence. The state of a computer at a given time is preserved -- it persists. This may apply to an entire operating system (OS). I created a persistent OS on USB, and unthinkingly left it plugged in to my wife's computer. Yesterday I realised just how persistent an OS may be, when her computer booted up with my OS, called up all my files, connected to the Internet, displayed all the websites I was busy with, had all my software packages on hand, and even some passwords.
