A while ago, I found this gravestone in the bush, near Velddrif, a hundred miles north of Cape Town. It was almost completely concealed by bushes, and the shade made it difficult to read the inscription. I found a mirror which I took to the grave to illuminate it. One sees that it is an infant's grave, Frederick Viola, who died in 1899, after just eleven days. Signore Viola was an Italian pioneer in the area. I know no more than that.
