Emily May Pateman

I have the first written record of myths and legends of the Central Pacific by Emily May Pateman. This is important because she obtained the stories from elders who had been entrusted with them -- a system which is now compromised. Miss Pateman's book was printed in the Central Pacific, too. In her own hand, she writes above this illustration: "This map is dreadful, + should have been re-cut" (I have her personal copy). OBSERVATION: The book is printed on extraordinarily durable paper. If this were not so, my copy might not have survived.
