Subjugating Suicide

There is a suicide epidemic, worldwide. Every week, one reads of celebrity suicides -- this week included. One feels it in ministry, too. It has a lot to do with the question "What can I hope for?" From a human point of view, I can only hope for more of the same -- or another cycle of something -- or something good but one can't be sure -- and then, what lies beyond that? And so on. The theologian Stephen Travis wrote that "to hope means to look forward expectantly for God’s future activity". Once one sees it that way, all the problems of hope fall away. Even the bad things are gracious acts from God.
