Extraordinary Connections

I have made some extraordinary connections through Facebook. This week I was communicating with a young woman, a teacher, on Abaiang atoll. I said I had lived on Abaiang. But she really was from Tamana atoll, she wrote -- a tiny little island in the Southern Gilberts. I lived on Tamana, too, as a boy. Perhaps I had met her family? Her great-grandfather was Neeti, she wrote. As a boy, I knew Neeti. This is a photo of me with Neeti by my side, on Tarawa atoll about 1968. I sent her a copy.
