On Sunday an Anglican vicar announced an Annual Vestry Meeting, and promised that it would "definitely be shorter than 30 minutes". An Annual Vestry Meeting is a meeting with the members -- the equivalent of an Annual General Church Meeting in the Congregational Church. In the Congregationalist Church, however, 30 minutes would be impossible. The congregation governs the Church. How could they ever govern in 30 minutes? Also, a Congregational AGM includes worship, testimony, and so on, by tradition. We had a few suggestions under my ministr(ies) as to how we could shorten Church Meetings -- perhaps by issuing reports in advance -- or that we could introduce a lunch break. None of these proposals carried the day. People said that I was too open to the members as the Chair -- but rather that than be too closed to them. Members are executives in the Congregational Church. OBSERVATION: We did rein in time to some extent.
