Quiet Activism

I have not made much of my activism, in fact I have been quite quiet about it -- because I am a minister, and because the thoughts matter to me more than the connections. I think of myself as neither conservative nor progressive but independent -- someone who cares about the issues themselves. Among other things, I was a chairperson of the Conscription Advice Service, a founder member of the prominent anti-apartheid Action Group. I did voluntary work for the Black Sash, wrote a booklet endorsed by (now) Nobel laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu. I promoted the Maryland Literacy Programme, and affordable housing. I have supported many events arranged by prominent social activists. I pioneered nonracial Church, supported the student movement, and a lot more.

POSTSCRIPT: I am also motivated by wanting to know what is happening in our society. One ought to be there, and see.
