Repeating History

South Africa has wretched wars and skirmishes over issues which, in Europe, were settled long ago. People fight to the death here over religious, academic, political (and so on) issues which in other places are no longer issues. To make matters worse, nobody seems to know that these things were fought over in other places at other times, or how. And then, there is a sense of self-sufficiency, and rejection of foreign influence. And then, people often do not seem to know how to manage the basics of debate: for example, identifying or defining crucial terms. OBSERVATION: Here in Cape Town, our city could be described as the farthest outlier on the globe, and in a way it is quite isolated.
