Cape Town is the home of a few rare silverleaf forests (Leucadendron argadenteum). At the beginning of last year, however, there was a major mountain fire, which razed a whole forest. Then came a strong wind, which drove away the seeds which had been ejected. Firefighters dropped salt water on the fire -- around the perimeter of the forest, they said. OBSERVATION: See on the highest slopes of Lion's Head in this photo. The forest is a shadow of its former self -- one sees this by comparing older photos.
