Time is Not Hours Worked

It is crucially important to remember in ministry that time is not measured in hours, as it were. Much of the work of ministry is energy intensive. If one fails to keep that in mind, one can burn out, as many ministers do. Some Churches and denominations want their ministers to work by the clock. But I think this is a recipe for disaster -- and as many have pointed out, not good for ministry. For example, The Millennial PastorOBSERVATION: I changed my own ways after PTSD. Sometimes, after very demanding or draining work -- which may include the extremes of human existence -- I knocked off for the day, to start again the next day. This did not mean, however, that I worked less than full time -- the great majority of ministers work overtime, and so have I.
