Ancient Kite Design

In an extraordinary coincidence, I met this man's daughter this morning, on the Internet. I thought that I recognised her father here, from another photo she identified. I met him more than 50 years ago. He built me a kite, the frame of which is pictured here -- and the remarkable thing about these kites is that they were aerodynamic structures which predated any Western influences. I kept this kite until we left the islands. OBSERVATION: One local told me that, when he was a boy, such a kite lifted him in the air and threw him against a coconut tree.
