Do Scientists Speak The Same Language?
All scientists speak the same language. Or so they say. I was checking the output of a digital mixer today, with an oscilloscope. I said to myself, "Now pull it down hard! (the output). Got it!" I had a fresh insight into the mixer. Now I considered what I would say for the electronics press. Something like, "Consider the input impedance of the next stage," or "Let's think on the load on the output," or "Tie it low." But this would have missed my insight. The insight was lost when I translated it to standard scientific language. I have won many prizes for ingenuity. Why didn't others think of those things? It seems possible that (whether amateur or professional) scientists do not all speak the same language.
