The Church in Kiribati is building up to its 150-year celebrations of the coming of the first missionaries, beginning on Sunday. Many celebrants have already arrived on the tiny island of Tamana (less than 2 square miles in extent). Two more ships are on their way now. I had the privilege of being invited, but sadly it is beyond possible.
OBSERVATION: It began with 69 Samoan missionaries, who were transported to Kiribati by the London Missionary Society. The photo shows the mission ship the John Williams VII.
