Experience Kicks In

Most of my funerals have been fairly ordinary occasions, whether big or small. One would think that the extraordinary ones would afford one more time and diligence to prepare. In fact the opposite. On one extraordinary occasion, undertakers, police, public transport, press, photographers, family, and more made any number of requests and demands, and I went into my preparations with 30 minutes to spare -- at which point a government official called me up, and said that the funeral was suspended while a court reached a decision. This led to consternation in the Church, which the minister (me) sought to calm. Things were resolved without a minute to spare, and I stepped into the pulpit ... unprepared. OBSERVATION: This is where experience kicks in!
