Ministry Myth
A myth one often hears of ministers is that they have no experience of life. They are in the ministry after all, so what do they know of the world. A minister might ask in reply, "Did you visit the city morgue lately? The jail? Did you visit the townships? Farm labourers? Did you visit people with terminal illness? Did you deal with domestic violence? Police investigators? Embezzlement? Unfair dismissal? Did you visit the psychiatric ward? Intensive care? Attempted suicide? Did you get assaulted? Have murder threats? Talk with professors? Priests? Pastors? Shopkeepers? Transvestites? Pimps? Counsel people who were bereaved? Deal with hunger? Xenophobia? Vermin?" OBSERVATION: I have all of the above from my journal, and it happened in one year. Nor is it the case that ministers work in a shielded environment. Ministry as a vocation is often subject to adversity.
