Moving in Circles

I would imagine that, in Africa, we (sometimes) view the US elections more from the outside than from the inside. I also view them as an editor, because they are reflected in submissions we receive. The USA keeps repeating itself -- and forgetting. It is a problem, because they are not moving forward. That is to put it far too vaguely and simply of course, but ... it is a problem. They move in cycles, or circles. Several months ago, I requested an article for a journal on why the USA is stuck in behaviours going back generations. The author chose to write about their inability to change their justice system: "Rational and psychological barriers ... are an obstacle that it is categorically impossible to conquer." OBSERVATION: It happens in Churches, too -- sometimes in a more pronounced way than in society. So one hears comments like, "This is the fifth time straight that we have been through this trauma."
