Boolean Logic

It is well known that it is possible to implement all of a computer's logic functions with just three basic logic gates. I noticed something interesting while I was developing some circuits recently: it is possible to design all of the six most common logic gates with five electronic symbols on paper -- no changes to the design for any which one. This puzzles me greatly. What does it mean? How can every equation or algorithm under the sun be reduced to the same simple circuit -- joined in different constellations of course. How is it possible for every basic Boolean function to look the same? OBSERVATION: (In reality, one component is adjustable).
