Mono for Strings

My eye fell upon this image yesterday, of a musical performance in a Church. Notice the single microphone above the guitar strings. This illustrates a deficiency with string pickups which is usually unseen -- but it is seen in this image. Pickups are one-dimensional. Musical strings are two-dimensional. I described this in my (brief) paper Surround Sound Pickup for String Instruments. Today we have stereo sound, but it's still mono for strings.
