Avoiding Disaster

The University of Cape Town suffered severe damage yesterday in a runaway veld fire. Among other things, the historic Jagger Library was destroyed. My thought was, how could they let it happen? In ministry, one of the little known tasks of the minister is forward thinking: what could happen? Are we prepared? Are we covered? While the minister is usually not hands on, he or she is mindful of these things. In my own Churches, we had a few scrapes, but no disaster that seriously affected us, and we surely prevented a few with forward thinking. OBSERVATION: Some more serious events in my own experience: in one case, a gunman put dozens of holes in our stained glass, and in another, all of our roofs were destroyed in a freak storm. We were fully covered in both these cases.
