My hazardous hobby of switching operating systems continues. I have been switching to Puppy Linux (Fossapup, pictured) from time to time. It works very nicely, on my small Lenovo 300E -- when installed from USB to USB. It isn't quite the easiest OS to install. There are problems installing new apps, too, which is a hit and miss affair. Also, Puppy Linux is slow to boot. However, there are remarkably few problems besides, compared to competing distributions of Linux.
POSTSCRIPT: Oddly, Puppy Linux appears to have no screen brightness setting. I use the command brightness-set 50, where 50 is 50 / 100, or whatever percentage one prefers. Often, Puppy apps prefer to deal with files in the /home directory, not elsewhere.
