My Home Town and Russia

My home town, Cape Town, lies some vast distance away from Russia -- and from Ukraine -- on Africa's farthest shores. Could it, too, be of "security" interest to Russia? According to the US EIA, Cape Town is more important than the Suez Canal for the passage of oil. OBSERVATION: Also, South Africa, the last time I checked, was Ukraine's second largest trading partner in Africa.The importance of South Africa may be seen by the fact that, in my own lifetime, three of its neighbours were in the Soviet orbit, if one takes (then) SWA as being under South African control. Our DIRCO, which "promotes South Africa's national interests" instantly reacted to the present Russian incursion, or invasion, as the case may be.
