It seems de rigueur in certain circles not to express an original opinion, but (nearly) always to quote someone else. I would think it is done as a safe way to communicate. Yet one can’t remove oneself. One still has the characteristics and demographics of the quotes -- which may reveal more than anything. Confining oneself mostly to quoting others is often done in the academic context. I call it teaching by stealth. OBSERVATION: This does reflect, though, the challenge that it is to say something today. Quite the opposite of stealth is what grows a Church: plain talking, with conviction.
