Ministers' Worldly Experience

A myth one often hears is that ministers have no experience of life. They are in ministry after all, so what do they know of the world. I made a list once of my experience in a single year. I visited the morgue. And the jail. The townships. Stayed with farm labourers. Visited the dying. The psychiatric ward. Intensive care. Intervened in domestic violence. Met with police investigators. Dealt with embezzlement. Attempted suicide. Was assaulted. Received murder threats. Spoke with professors. Priests. Pastors. Shopkeepers. Conversed with transvestites. Pimps. Counselled the bereaved. Tackled problems of hunger. Vermin. Xenophobia. Among other things. OBSERVATION: Rev. Steve Brown, a well known minister in the USA, made a similar list and said, "Put that in your pipe and smoke it."
