Micro-Racism

What I would call micro-racism (properly, "the micro level of racism") is something I became increasingly aware of as my congregation became increasingly Black. It is small acts of disrespect, slights, bias, misrecognition, and exclusion that may or may not be deliberate. In my experience, this has begun to reverse, since the fall of apartheid. An example: a security officer came round and ordered me to turn down my music. I said, "Notice that it's not mine. It's the neighbour's. It's Nigerian music. I'm not Nigerian." The security officer responded, "Oh! Right! That's OK then." And the Nigerian neighbour was left to play his music, without turning it down ...
