Generational Spirits

I was in a gathering of Church folks yesterday -- of an African indigenous Church. The discussion went like this. There are generational sins -- everyone passionately agreed. Alcoholism, promiscuity, abuse, and so on. They pass from generation to generation. This was due to generational spirits, they said. Western Churches, they said, put it down to genetic factors, behavioural factors, and so on. No, they said, it is generational spirits. OBSERVATION: This isn't altogether an African idea. C. Peter Wagner (a fellow alumnus of Fuller in the USA) argued for much the same, on Biblical grounds. Apart from the Biblical argument, the African perspective, I think, may be the truest.
