Broadening Participation

One of my goals in ministry has been to broaden, broaden, broaden participation, in every way. Mostly this has been incremental, and consultation with the whole congregation has been a priority. It has been good for the Church. In particular, about the middle of my city ministry, we made some relatively simple changes in our Church, which broadened participation in our Sunday services. This brought about a significantly changed and re-invigorated Church. OBSERVATION: The purpose is to cultivate the people involved, and to enrich the spiritual input that a congregation receives. But apart from this, it transforms a congregation. A particular challenge is that participation means different things for different cultural groups. I have given a lot of attention to (trying to) be even-handed in the midst of diversity.
