I designed another radical metal detector in my head -- then wired it all up. It worked -- it picked up metal at a respectable distance -- though it didn't work well enough to be practical. The mistake lies in my method. I wired it all up at once. A better way to go is to wire up a new design step by step, and test every step as one goes. OBSERVATION: But mostly, if something works first time, it can work better. Something interesting for me is the differences that appear between mind and reality, when one does design work.
