Here's an anecdote from ministry, which reveals something of the "culture" in my Churches. One of our group leaders arrived at Church drunk. There was a function on in a hall, which was not connected with the Church. He walked in and demanded that he be served with the other guests. I said to the diaconate, “This is an isolated incident (and it was), I would think we can let it pass -- this time.” No, no, they said, you have to challenge him. And so the minister undertook the difficult task of challenging him. OBSERVATION: One sees here a culture of “order” in the Church. Members were expected to behave to a certain standard, and were held accountable. Sometimes the diaconate had higher expectations than the minister, and sometimes vice versa, but one worked by consensus.
