Hunting Predators
I took this photo in the Suurveld. These hapless hounds are called jakkalshonde. They are raised for the purpose of hunting roofdiere, or predators: namely leopards, jackals, caracal, and armadillos. I am told that the dogs do not become victims themselves of predators. Their pelt protects them. In the case of leopards, jackals, and caracal they go for the kill, while in the case of armadillos, they trap them and wait for the (human) kill. OBSERVATION: These dogs are not pets. They are kept in large cages, and put to use as needed. This is a matter-of-fact post. There are conservation issues. You may click on the photo to enlarge to 200k.
