Congregational Prayers

Every two or three weeks, in my ministry, I have asked one of the congregation to lead the Sunday prayers. It is a release for me -- a genuine lightening of my load on a Sunday morning -- and it truly enriches the services. While there are those who are tried and true with prayers, I have continually sought new input. So for example, I said to our office secretary one day: "Give so-and-so a shot. I know it's not likely that she'll do it." But she did, she was a fresh face at the front, and she did well. OBSERVATION: With regard to "newbies", I always give some basic advice on how to balance a prayer. And I ask people not simply to read off an existing prayer, but to make it original.
