There is a beach in Cape Town on which a large number of fossils are picked up. And there are some vagabonds who scour the beach and sell the fossils to tourists. Son M. recently found this, which he identifies as the foot bone of a probiscidean. One sees the finer structure of the bone in the photo. OBSERVATION: M. says that there surely is a major fossil deposit just out of sight somewhere under the waves. You may click on the photo to enlarge. (It is a section of Milnerton beach).
