There would seem to be a growing tendency of Churches to hear no evil see no evil. Here's an example. There was a clergyman who by all accounts was posing as a doctor -- I'll call him X. I asked the Church whether they could confirm that he was, in fact, a doctor. There was a long silence. Then I received a lawyer's letter. It stated (abridged):
"You have inquired whether Doctor X. is, in fact, a doctor. The Church was introduced to X. as Doctor X., and had no need, reason or cause to request or demand proof of his academic qualification. I am therefore unable to state whether or not Doctor X. is a doctor."
