I was sorry to hear the news this week of the death of a past Church caretaker, Lillian Dyantyi -- at a relatively young age. She is here pictured second from the left. Lillian was a hearty, friendly caretaker, and a good worker. It was a pleasure to have her around. In the end, though, she had mood swings which, for days at a time, seriously eroded her ability to work. OBSERVATION: It was a fateful day which led to her becoming our caretaker. Her
husband, who was our caretaker at the time (they shared a flat on the
Church property) had brutally whipped her. I met her in the Church
foyer, lacerated and bleeding. He had a gun, too, and threatened to shoot her. We instantly dismissed him and barred him from entry, fearing that Lillian could be in serious danger. The state rebuked the Church for dismissing her husband for his behaviour off duty. We reached a settlement with him.
