How much of a priority is it for Church officers to be visible? At a Church breakfast once, I stood up and said: "We have more than half our diaconate here this morning!" Then, before I could check myself: "That's amazing!" This ignited laughter all around the hall. I said: "That was a slip of the tongue!" Which brought even more laughter. OBSERVATION: In my ministr(ies), by and large, just two things have been mandatory for elders and deacons, through resolutions of the members: • attend Sunday services, and • attend diaconate meetings (and give at least 24 hours' notice). The rules were on the wall, and were very well adhered to. At the close of my city ministry, members requested that diaconate members be more visible, in a number if ways. This was left to the next dispensation to apply.
