Transactional Relationships

Many times, I have come across long term "paid relationships" in ministry. In most of those I came across, both men and women -- often after the fact -- sometimes on one side, sometimes both -- were expecting to get far more for the money they paid or received: love, security, status, even children. Men were fooled, by thinking that it was more than a financial transaction (intuitively, one wouldn't expect that). Women were fooled ... likewise. Sometimes the transactions were explicit, sometimes merely "understood". And the arrangements were various. But the devastation caused by that mistake of expecting "far more" was great. OBSERVATION: And then there were men and women who were ruthless -- who knew what they were in it for, and built a kind of life for themselves as they went.
