Something I have which is (a little bit) useful is an academic ID, which I hold through ORCID iD (Open Researcher and Contributor ID). My ID is 0000-0002-9967-6179. About five million academics carry the ID. Not that I am a notable academic, but I have what is required for the ID. This has proved useful a few times lately. I don't need to introduce myself all over again, I just present my ID. In fact some publishers request the ID as the "magical number" to start the publishing process. OBSERVATION: ORCID iD is interoperable, which means that it is compatible with other systems. Academic IDs are taking off in a digital world.
