Ministry is filled with stark contrasts. A minister may go from one life-and-death situation to the next to the next to the next. The thoughts that go over and over in his or her mind are thoughts of terminal illness and death and suicide threats and violence and mourning -- and so on. He knows most of the people concerned, and cares about them. At the same time, he walks into Church and sees a young woman giggling, or children playing, or young men talking sports -- people in a world so different to his own. I once wrote on this blog: “How normal can that be? I’ve had enough.”
