I took this photo in 2003 in the Kiribati Republic -- a printer of the Church press using missionary era machinery. In 2003, the missionary era had ended 35 years before. The head of the press said to me that they kept cycling through modern equipment, and junked it -- but equipment of the missionary era just kept on going.
OBSERVATION: The alternative was to fly a technician out to Kiribati, every time they had a suitable stash of failed equipment. But the equipment also was not breaking down as anticipated. Various factors were killing it prematurely.
