Ministry may involve a vast amount of paperwork that may be hard to imagine to someone on the outside. An entry in my journal shows that I spent one week writing the usual sermon (three thousand words), together with prayers and order of service (say, one thousand) -- a four-page Church newsletter, and a major proposal for the Church diaconate -- I surveyed our diaconate minutes, did draft work for a Church meeting (and looked back over past meetings) -- surveyed forthcoming reports and agenda -- reviewed the membership roll -- went over the Church's financial statements, reviewed a pension scheme, put the draft of a contract together -- wrote dozens of letters and e-mails -- and more. OBSERVATION: And a lot of paperwork needs to be done thoughtfully and prayerfully.
