One receives thousands of advices in life, and surely forgets most of them. When I married E, I asked one of the elders (pictured) for his advice. He is pictured here distraught, after the loss of his wife, but it is one of my favourite photos of him. His answer came as a complete surprise: "Remember, it is all just a joke." That would seem to go against the very nature of advice: "Take this seriously, make sure you do that," and so on. A joke is "a thing that someone says to cause amusement or laughter, especially a story with a funny punchline".
