Two weeks ago, I caught a harmless bug -- then, a few days ago, it was as if I was hit by an oncoming train. In the space of a few hours, I was practically ... immobilised. It was the typical process of rheumatic fever, which I have had a few times in the past. A doctor attended to me today, and said that rheumatic fever practically doesn't exist now. He treated the bug -- which is what one does anyway with rheumatic fever. OBSERVATION: But looking at the statistics, rheumatic fever is still very much around -- and a big killer. There are 30-40 million cases a year, and it kills about 5% of its victims worldwide (in South Africa, about 4%). Now I hope for a good recovery.
