I did some really interesting editing this week: my own piece on hope (which regardless of its strengths or weaknesses fascinated me), an essay on the role of emotion in meting out justice (this has a lot to do with current news headlines), and an article on C.E.M. Joad's concept of personality (he believed that we live in a personal universe). None of these was easy work, and all of them still require final editorial approval. OBSERVATION: Joad is interesting, because he shifted from atheism to Christianity, and defended this philosophically -- at least, he did some inference to the best explanation. It looks as though Joad inspired Francis Schaeffer, whose core concept likewise was 'personality' -- and Schaeffer, said Ronald Reagan, was vital to his election as President of the United States. The image shows Joad.
