In my dreams last night, I was called back to an old Church. It was quite well attended for my first service, but the congregation dwindled through the service. By the time I said the benediction, almost everyone had left. An old woman said to me, "That was perfect. You did it as we always do it." An old man said mysteriously, "You betrayed me!" For a moment I felt defeated. But before I left the pulpit, I decided on reforms. We would make our purpose explicit in all services. We would increase the tempo. We would immediately introduce ministry by members. And we would focus on the application of the gospel.
